Late Night Subway

Before I came to Europe, I have lived in Beijing for seven years. The subway is the transportation I took every day. During those years, the most prominent feeling that the city gave me was that I felt a lot of pressure. Especially when I took the subway, I feel the strongest. In the morning the metro is very crowded, people are rushing to work. They seem busy and anxious. Some people have already started a day of work, replying to messages on their phones. Some are trying to stand firmly, holding the breakfast they still didn’t eat. The same goes for the subway during the time after their work, which is also crowded and tight.
I once heard a song called "The subway at 10:30", which was sung by my favorite Chinese singer Li Jian. It describes the appearance of people in the last subway, which is different from the morning and evening rush hours. The last subway at night is not so crowded, and people all have their seats. People showed all kinds of emotions and feelings in the last metro. Some were tired and fell asleep in their places. Some stretched themself on the empty seats. The young people chatted cheerfully. People begin to show different behaviors than the other time on the subway. Although I rarely took the late subway before, in my previous guess, the people on the last subway must also look no different from other times.
After I stayed in Europe for two years, I went back to Beijing again during the holidays. In the past two years, my status has changed. I think my perspective on Beijing is different from two years ago. So I decided to bring my sketchbook as an onlooker who had been away for some time, to observe the people on the last subway and wanted to see if they look like how the song described. I also want to know if I can find some other stories and feelings that I haven't seen before.
When I took the late night subway, I wrote this text in my notebook.
16/07/2019 Last night on the subway, I met a middle-aged lady. She was wearing a white shirt, black wide-leg trousers, and black leather shoes. The backpack tightened her shoulders. She first stood and leaned on the railing while looking at her cell phone. Her face looked tired. Later, when the seat next to me became available, she came and sat down, looked at her phone, closed her eyes and tried to sleep. There was an ulcer in the corner of her mouth, maybe it's too dry in the summer. Leaning on her seat, she couldn't sleep well, so she picked up her phone again. She typed a few words, then lay it down on her lap. The subway was moving. She slept for a while, picked up her phone again. "Good night, good night." The people in the chat group were going to sleep. ‘I still didn't arrive!’ She replied a few words in a lively tone, blinked her sleepy eyes. I couldn't help to glimpse at her phone. She was chatting in a Chat group, the name of the group was "for the better existence."
Now, two years later, I have changed my mind about Beijing and the people in Beijing. Life is complex and multifaceted. Happy, depressed, confident, discouraged...these feelings and emotions happen in Europe, and they also happen in China.
